How many laser scar treatment sessions will I need?

Laser scar treatment works as a progressive series: each 20 to 30 minute session prompts another round of remodeling, and the improvement accumulates across the series rather than arriving in one visit. How many sessions your scars need depends on their depth, their type, and how your skin responds, which is why the number is set at consultation and adjusted along the way, not quoted from a chart.
Collagen rebuilds on its own schedule
Remodeling a scar means convincing the skin to replace dense, disorganized repair tissue with better structure, and that reconstruction happens between sessions, not during them. Each treatment delivers the stimulus; the following weeks deliver the change. Stacking sessions at proper intervals is what turns incremental improvements into a visibly different scar.
This is also why minimal downtime matters more than it sounds: a series only works if you can actually keep it, and sessions you can walk out of and back into your day make consistency realistic.
What moves the number
Depth does the most work: a shallow rolling scar asks less of the series than deep boxcar or icepick scarring. Type matters alongside, since different architectures remodel at different rates, and most faces carry a mix. Finally, individual healing response varies; two people with similar scars can progress at different speeds. Marie reads all three at consultation, maps a series honestly against them, and adjusts as your skin shows its pace.
Tracking progress properly
Scar change is gradual enough that daily mirror inspection will gaslight you. Consistent photos, same light, same angle, taken across the series, are the honest record, and reviewing them at intervals with Marie is how the plan stays calibrated. Judge the series after it completes and the final round of remodeling has had its weeks, not midway through.
Common questions
How long is each session?
Sessions run 20 to 30 minutes with minimal downtime, designed to fit inside a normal day rather than requiring one off.
How far apart are sessions spaced?
Far enough for each remodeling cycle to progress before the next stimulus, with the exact interval set for your plan at consultation.
What if progress plateaus?
Plans are adjusted, not abandoned: settings, spacing, or complementary treatments can change based on how your scars are responding. That ongoing calibration is part of the treatment, not a failure of it.
