How much downtime does a PicoWay facial have?

Minimal. A Tight and Bright session on the Candela PicoWay runs 30 to 45 minutes, and most clients go directly back to their day. The reason is physics: picosecond pulses last trillionths of a second, faster than heat can build, so the laser works beneath the surface by photoacoustic effect and leaves the outer skin intact. Some pinkness in the hours afterward is normal. What needs planning is not recovery but the series itself, 3 to 6 sessions paced around your sun exposure.
Why there is so little to recover from
Most laser downtime is heat damage healing. Ablative resurfacing removes the top layer of skin on purpose and asks for days of raw, weeping recovery; longer-pulse lasers heat their target enough to redden and swell the skin for a day or more. The PicoWay avoids both by speed. Its pulses are measured in picoseconds, trillionths of a second, and at that duration the energy arrives before it can spread as heat. Instead it produces a photoacoustic effect: a pressure wave that shatters pigment into particles the body clears and nudges fibroblasts to make new collagen, with the epidermis left whole.
Intact surface, minimal downtime. Expect mild pinkness or warmth that settles the same day, and skin that may feel slightly tighter than usual. Makeup, work, and your normal routine are not interrupted; Marie will tell you if anything about your skin changes that.
Downtime is not the results timeline
Because nothing visibly peels or heals, it is easy to assume nothing happened. The work is below the surface and on a slower clock. Each session triggers a round of collagen and elastin production that accumulates over the following weeks, and the brightening comes as cleared pigment fades and tone evens. That is why the Tight and Bright is a series of 3 to 6 sessions rather than one appointment: the firmness and glow assemble across it, session by session.
So plan two different things. The day of treatment needs nothing. The series needs a calendar.
Pacing the series around sun and events
The one scheduling constraint is sun. Fresh pigment clearing and new collagen are both undone by unprotected exposure, so Marie paces sessions around your sun exposure and asks for diligent protection between them. For an event, the useful question is not how many days to hide but where in the series the date falls: the cumulative result is what you want on show, so start early enough that the sessions have had time to compound rather than booking one the week before.
Common questions
Can I go back to work the same day?
Yes. Sessions run 30 to 45 minutes and most clients return to their day directly afterward. Mild pinkness, when it appears, settles within hours.
Will my skin peel?
No. The PicoWay works beneath the surface by photoacoustic effect rather than by heating or removing the outer skin, so there is no peeling or raw phase to get through.
How far apart are the sessions?
The series is paced to your skin and your sun exposure rather than a fixed calendar. Marie sets the interval at consultation and adjusts it session by session as your skin responds.
