The Candela PicoWay, Explained

The Candela PicoWay is a picosecond laser: its pulses last trillionths of a second, arriving faster than heat can meaningfully build in the skin. Instead of burning its target, it creates a photoacoustic effect that shatters unwanted pigment into tiny particles the body clears naturally, while the same energy stimulates fresh collagen below. The outer skin stays intact, which is why treatments stay comfortable with little to no downtime.
Picoseconds and the photoacoustic effect
Traditional lasers work photothermally: their target absorbs light, heats up, and the heat does the work, with the skin around it absorbing some of the collateral. Compress the pulse into picoseconds and the physics changes. Energy arrives as a micro-mechanical impulse, a photoacoustic effect, that breaks pigment apart without cooking the tissue holding it.
For the client, that difference is the whole experience: sessions are comfortable, the surface stays unbroken, and recovery is minimal because there is not much to recover from.
Multiple wavelengths, tailored sessions
Pigment problems live at different depths and in different skin. The PicoWay's multiple wavelengths let Marie tailor each session to the concern and the skin tone in front of her, from surface sun spots and freckling to deeper, harder-to-treat pigment such as melasma. Tailoring is not a luxury here; matching wavelength to target is what makes treating stubborn pigment both effective and safe.
Beyond pigment: collagen renewal
The same picosecond energy also stimulates fresh collagen production, so skin looks clearer, brighter, and smoother over the weeks after treatment. That collagen effect is what powers the Tight and Bright laser facial, this studio's PicoWay-based series for firmer, more even skin, where the laser's rejuvenation side takes the lead role rather than the supporting one.
Common questions
Can it treat melasma?
Melasma is among the deeper, harder-to-treat pigment concerns the PicoWay's wavelength range is built to address. Because melasma behaves differently from ordinary sun spots, your plan and expectations are set at consultation.
What is the downtime?
Little to none. The energy works below the surface and leaves the outer skin intact, so most clients return directly to their day.
Is it safe for darker skin tones?
The PicoWay's multiple wavelengths exist so treatment can be matched to skin tone as well as concern. Your skin is assessed and settings chosen for it specifically at consultation.
