Can PRF gel help under-eye hollows?

Yes, when the shadow under the eye comes from a true hollow and thin skin rather than from pigment or puffiness. PRF gel, platelet-rich fibrin prepared from a small draw of your own blood, is placed into the tear trough where it releases growth factors gradually, prompting the skin to rebuild collagen and elastin and restoring volume over the following weeks. Because it is entirely your own tissue there is nothing synthetic to react to, and because it rebuilds rather than fills, the change is progressive and natural in this unforgiving zone.

Three causes of a dark under-eye

The under-eye reads tired for three separate reasons, and only one of them is a volume problem. An infraorbital hollow is a real depression along the tear trough: the fat and skin over the bone have thinned, light falls into the groove, and the shadow follows you regardless of sleep. Pigment is a color problem, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or melasma in the skin itself, and it stays put when you tilt your head toward the light. Puffiness is the opposite of a hollow, fat or fluid bulging above the trough and casting a shadow below it.

PRF addresses the hollow and the thin skin around it. Pigment answers to a picosecond laser, and puffiness is assessed on its own terms. Because the three coexist, Marie identifies which is doing the work before proposing anything, and the consultation often reorders what a client assumed they needed.

Why PRF suits this zone

Under-eye skin is the thinnest on the face, and it is the first place hollowing shows. That thinness is what makes it a poor fit for anything that adds bulk or can be seen through the skin, and a good fit for a treatment that improves the skin itself. PRF is spun gently with no anticoagulant, preserving a fibrin scaffold that holds the platelets and releases their growth factors slowly as the matrix breaks down, keeping the regenerative signal active in the tissue for weeks rather than hours.

The evidence is honest rather than miraculous. A 2025 systematic review of PRP and PRF for periorbital rejuvenation found the strongest support for improvements in skin texture, fine lines, and crepiness, with improvements in the studies often fading by around 6 months. Expect PRF to thicken and smooth the skin over the hollow and to restore volume gradually, not to erase a deep trough in one visit, and expect maintenance to be part of the plan.

The session and the recovery

Plan for 45 to 60 minutes in the studio, including the blood draw and in-clinic preparation of your gel, and expect 1 to 2 days of downtime as any swelling and bruising settle. Nothing you see on day one is the result; the growth factors work over the following weeks and the collagen they trigger accumulates behind them, so texture usually improves first and volume follows. Consistent photographs in the same light are the fair way to judge it.

Common questions

Will PRF fix dark circles?

Only the kind caused by a hollow. If the darkness is pigment in the skin, it stays after volume is restored and is treated with a picosecond laser instead. Marie separates the two at consultation.

Why not just use a filler under the eye?

PRF is your own tissue, so there is nothing synthetic to show through skin this thin and nothing to react to. It also improves the skin quality itself rather than only propping it up, which is what most tired-looking under-eyes actually need.

How long does the under-eye result last?

Published periorbital studies saw PRF improvements often fading by around 6 months, so plan on maintenance rather than a one-time correction. The interval is set individually at consultation as Marie sees how your skin responds.
